What does .ARC mean?
--------------------
.ARC files are actually a group of files that are stuck together to
simplify things. After you download them, you have to un-arc the files
with a special program. This program (called "ARC" or "PKXARC") is
available on most boards.
The SQUASH method
-----------------
ARC has many different ways to compress its data. These include
"packing", "storing", "crunching", and "squashing". Squashing is a
relatively new method that is now use in PKXARC.
CRC errors
----------
CRC errors are reported by ARC when files that are downloaded get
messed up somehow. The usual remedy is to try to re-download the file.
A CRC error could also be caused by using a program to decompress a
"Squashed" file that does not support the squashing method. The best
solution in this case is to download PKXARC and try it again.
