  3. What does .ARC mean?
  4. --------------------

  6.      .ARC files are actually a group of files that are stuck together to
  7.   simplify things. After you download them, you have to un-arc the files
  8.   with a special program. This program (called "ARC" or "PKXARC") is
  9.   available on most boards.

  12. The SQUASH method

  15.       ARC has many different ways to compress its data. These include
  16.   "packing", "storing", "crunching", and "squashing". Squashing is a
  17.   relatively new method that is now use in PKXARC.

  20. CRC errors
  21. ----------

  23.       CRC errors are reported by ARC when files that are downloaded get
  24.   messed up somehow. The usual remedy is to try to re-download the file.
  25.   A CRC error could also be caused by using a program to decompress a
  26.   "Squashed" file that does not support the squashing method. The best
  27.   solution in this case is to download PKXARC and try it again.
